CFCL

In September 2023, the fashion industry’s attention was captivated by the unveiling of the CFCL Spring Summer 24 Collection. This event was not just a showcase of new fashion pieces but also a reflection of contemporary themes and technological advancements. The collection, crafted by Yusuke Takahashi, was presented against the fascinating backdrop of The Line—Saudi Arabia’s visionary urban development project. The Line’s futuristic concept of a linear, car-free city sprawling through the desert served as a profound inspiration for Takahashi, who is celebrated for his dedication to functionality and reducing waste through innovative knitting technologies.

Takahashi’s influences for this collection are deeply rooted in the contrast between the metallic, futuristic vision of The Line and the natural, arid landscapes of the desert. This juxtaposition is reflected in the collection’s aesthetic, which marries sleek, futuristic designs with a touch of organic ease and comfort. The use of rectangular metallic sequins, hand-applied to CFCL’s signature dense knits, introduces a sparkling dynamism to the collection, echoing the metallic nature of The Line’s urban vision.

Venue and Presentation

The collection was presented at the Palais de Tokyo’s haute galerie, an apt choice for a collection that bridges the gap between art, technology, and fashion. The venue was adorned with delicate aluminum houseplants by Japanese artist Toshihiko Mitsuya, further emphasizing the metallic theme and the dialogue between the natural and the artificial. The show’s music—a fusion of traditional Indian tabla drums with an electronic soundscape—underscored the collection’s theme of human creativity versus machine, a topic Takahashi is passionate about.
